Little by little the extraordinary Christmas Lottery draw is approaching and each Spaniard spends an average of around 60 euros on it. However, spending is not the same in all regions. Which autonomous communities buy the most Christmas Lottery?
It should be borne in mind that 2020 was conditioned by the pandemic, which reduced Christmas Lottery sales by 11 percent compared to 2019, reaching a total of 2,582 million euros, far from the 3,440 million that would correspond to the full sale of all the tickets.
Not all communities contributed equally to this decline. For example, in the Canary Islands sales fell by 16.41 percent and in Asturias and the Balearic Islands by 15 percent as a result of the sharp drop in tourism. But leaving these factors aside, here is the ranking of the five autonomous communities where most Christmas lottery tickets were sold in 2020:
1.- Community of Madrid: 453 million euros.
2.- Andalusia: 357 million euros
3.- Catalonia: 340 million euros
4.- Valencian Community: 308 million euros
5.- Castile and Leon: 203 million euros.
And this is the ranking of the five autonomous regions where less Christmas Lottery was sold in 2020:
1.- Autonomous City of Ceuta: 1 million euros
2.- Autonomous City of Melilla: 1 million euros
3.- La Rioja: 24 million euros
4.- Navarra: 31 million euros
5.- Cantabria: 38 million euros
