The Christmas Lottery draw is here and this year a total of 2,408 million euros in prizes will be awarded. The first prize, the Gordo, is worth 400,000 euros per tenth, the second prize, 125,000 euros per tenth and the third prize, 50,000 euros per tenth.
Every year 100,000 numbers are put into play. All have the same probability of coming out of the drums installed in the Teatro Real in Madrid - where the draw is held - and only 15,304 will win. That is to say, 15.3 percent of the participants will win a prize, including the pedrea.
The probability of winning something more than the reintegro is slightly more than 5 percent, but what about the chance of winning the Christmas Lottery jackpot?
If you only play one tenth the probability is 1 in 100,000, i.e. 0.001 percent. The figure is the same for the second and third prizes. And what about the rest?
The chances of winning the 20,000 euros per tenth of the fourth prize are 2 in 100,000, i.e. 0.002 percent, and the chances of winning one of the eight fifth prizes of 6,000 euros each are 8 in 100,000, i.e. 0.008 percent.
