The most sought-after Christmas tenths of recent years
On 22 December, the long-awaited Christmas lottery draw is held and although all the numbers and endings have the same probability of being chosen, there are always some numbers that are sought after more than others.
Usually the most sought-after numbers tend to coincide with the date of an important event, whether it is a royal wedding, a World Cup triumph or any other event that captures the attention of the whole country. In this article we look back at the most sought-after numbers of recent years. Do you remember them?
Last year the high demand for tenths was linked to numbers related to the coronavirus pandemic. If traditionally the most requested Christmas ending is usually that of the current year, in 2020 the ending 19 (for Covid-19) was the one that attracted the most interest. If we talk about tenths, these were the "star numbers". The "king tenth" was 14320, which coincided with the date on which the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, declared a state of alarm throughout the country to try to halt the advance of the virus. That number was quickly sold out. So did 21520, corresponding to the first day on which the entire population was forced to wear masks.
If we look back at other years, you may remember other important dates when the lottery tickets also ran out quickly in all the administrations. For example, in 2019 there were two general elections in Spain and the tenths 28419 and 10119 were the most sought after.
In 2018, the application of article 155 of the Constitution in Catalonia made 00155 the most sought-after tenth. That year also saw the "triumph" of 31518 corresponding to the motion of censure of Mariano Rajoy, which brought Pedro Sánchez to the presidency of the country.
And if we look further back and go back to 2014, we remember that the "star number" was 19614, corresponding to the date of the abdication of King Juan Carlos I and that in 2010 it was 11710, which coincided with the day on which Spain was proclaimed World Cup champion in South Africa.
