The Red Cross was created by a Swiss banker upon witnessing the devastating result of a battle between the French and Austrian armies, and seeing how the wounded were not treated, as a result of this fact the association was officially established in 1863 and it was recognized as independent and neutral by all nations, regardless of race, nationality, or creed. His work has been recognized throughout history with different awards, being the Prince of Asturias Award for international cooperation in 2012.
